I studied Forestry at the University of Lleida, Spain. Since I started my studies I had a strong motivation concerning sustainable forest management and international cooperation issues. So, I moved to Montpellier (France) where I followed the Advanced Master in Tropical and Rural Forestry at the French Institute of Forestry, Agricultural and Environmental Engineering (ENGREF). Later on, after some years working and gaining professional experience, I completed the degree of Master of Science in Research of Forest Systems and Products at the University of Lleida in order to update and improve my scientific skills. Then, I decided to deepen in my research career and completed the degree of Doctor of Science (Agriculture and Forestry) at the University of Eastern Finland. At present, I am a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Science and Forestry of the University of Eastern Finland. My research topic is modelling forest dynamics and optimization of multi-objective forest management, with special focus on Mediterranean and Tropical forest ecosystems.

Ei kukaan ole seppä syntyessään.

Or, in other words, live and learn

Finnish proverb

Since 2000 I have developed, through qualified training and work experience, a strong defined professional orientation in Forestry Research and Development. I have developed part of my research activity at renowned research institutions as the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD, France), the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE, Costa Rica) and the University of Eastern Finland (UEF). In Spain, I have been also involved in several EC-financed forest research projects at the University of Lleida, at the Institute for Food and Agricultural Research and Technology (IRTA) and at the Forest Sciences Centre of Catalonia (CTFC). My working experience has been therefore strongly linked to the coordination, execution and design of R+D projects in Europe, Latin America, Africa and Mediterranean Basin.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Henry David Thoreau, Walden (1854)
